CLERK OF COURT & COMPTROLLER

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FLORIDA

The latest addition to the Clerk's fleet of electric

The latest edition to the Clerk's fleet is electric

The latest addition to the Clerk’s vehicle fleet is the smallest in both size and environmental footprint.

The 2018 MotoEV Bubble Buddy is a fully-electric vehicle that is used primarily by our Mail Services staff to move about the cluster of buildings they serve in downtown Tampa.

You might call it a golf cart on steroids, with a range of up to 50 miles on a single charge and a top speed of 25 mph.

Many people do not realize that the Clerk of Court & Comptroller is responsible for mail delivery to all Hillsborough County offices, as well as several other government agencies, including our own.

Our staff processed 1.8 million pieces of mail to 129 Hillsborough County Government locations, 67 Clerk’s Office locations and 13 other government agencies. We processed 1.8 million pieces of mail last year.

The Bubble Buddy is used for mail pickup and delivery at 6 buildings in downtown Tampa. It can also be used by other Clerk’s Office departments such as IT to deliver equipment.

The cart reduces fuel costs through route realignment and consolidation and lower fuel prices. The cost was about $17,000. It does not include air conditioning, though small fans try to keep things cool on the inside.

The cart was featured during last week’s Drive Electric Week Celebration.
