Significant changes are coming to County Court
Starting January 1, 2020:
- The dollar limits in County Court will double to $30,000.
- Small claims cases will increase 60 percent to include amounts up to $8,000.
- Anyone filing a civil suit must include a cover sheet specifying the amount of money in dispute in cases valued at more than $8,000.
One important thing that won’t change: filing fees. They will remain the same.
The changes are the result of a legislation passed this year by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis. The Florida Supreme Court approved rules that increased small claims amounts and changes in the civil cover sheet.
