Military Appreciation
May is National Military Appreciation Month. In 1999, the United States Congress designated the month as a time for all Americans to show our gratitude for the courageous men and women who have or are currently serving our country, and to honor those we have lost along the way.
May also marks several military remembrance dates, including May 8th, Victory in Europe (VE Day), or the end of World War II in Europe. The month concludes with Memorial Day, the last Monday of May, honoring veterans who died while serving.
We will pause on Memorial Day, which falls on May 27 this year, to remember those who made the greatest sacrifice.
The Clerk’s Office thanks all soldiers, sailors, and all current and former military service members for your service and the sacrifices you and your families make to protect our many freedoms. Our office honors and recognizes military members every day.
I also want to share a change in the law that helps protect certain current and former Military Personnel and their families.
Senate Bill 548 makes sensitive, personal information exempt from public records upon written request. This protected information includes telephone numbers, home addresses, dates of birth, and more.
Please refer to SB548 (Chapter Law 2024-111) when determining if you qualify for the exemption.
We created a handbook and posted it on our website: Public Records Exempt Personal Information [pdf]
It includes the steps you can take and the forms you need to initiate the process for review to determine exemption of your personal information from public records. We also offer active military members and veterans the opportunity to bypass lines at our customer service counters. You will notice a special button at our kiosks where customers check in that will allow you to move to the front of the virtual queue.
It’s a small gesture for those who have given us so much.
As your Hillsborough County Clerk of Court and Comptroller, I want to personally thank you for your service and for keeping our country safe.
