ClerkExpress FAQs

What is ClerkExpress?

ClerkExpress allows you to “get in line now”, saving your place in line as though you were already here (similar to call ahead seating at a restaurant). This is a great option for you if you need to visit one of our offices. Before you come to one of our locations, we recommend that you visit our services pages to see if your needs can be met online, through phone, or mail.  ClerkExpress also provides you with the ability to make an appointment.  At this time, we offer appointments for passport services, home solicitations permits, marriage licenses, marriage ceremonies,  traffic ticket business, child support, family law, probate and guardianship, criminal and civil case filing, juvenile, and reviewing case files. Appointments for some of these services are only available at our Downtown Tampa location.

How does it work?

When you click on the “Make Apt | Get In Line Now” button, our ClerkExpress service will open.  You need to select to either Make an appointment or to Get In Line Now. Make an Appointment is for a future date and time. Get in Line Now is for when you are coming to a Clerk location now, no appointment needed.

Make an Appointment:  You need to select a service, (e.g. Civil Court, Passport, etc.), then the Clerk’s office location you want to visit (not all locations offer all appointment types).  Depending on your service type, you may also be offered an appointment type (for Passports and for Marriage) - if you are offered appointment types, select the appointment type. Next, select the date. Only dates highlighted in green have availability for the service you selected (they might not have availability for the appointment type for passports, however) if you are requesting more than 1 passport).  Select one of the green highlighted dates. if there are appointment openings available for your appointment type, a list of available times for that day will appear. Select the time you want. If you do not like the times offered, you can always go back and select a later date or even a different Clerk office location. Once you find the location, date and time that will work for you, enter your contact information and email address, then click “Submit”. Your confirmation notice will be displayed on your screen; we will also send you a confirmation email with your appointment reservation number, date and time. You will need to check in at the service kiosk at our office up to 15 minutes before your appointment time.

Get in Line Now: You can only Get In Line Now during Clerk business hours. This service is not available outside of normal business hours. You need to select a service, (e.g. Civil Court, Passport, etc.), and the Clerk’s office you want to visit. When viewing the office options, you can see the number of customers waiting and the average wait time at that location. After entering your contact information and email address, click “Submit”. Your Confirmation notice will be displayed on your screen; we will also send you a confirmation email with your Reservation Number. You will need to enter your Reservation Number into the service kiosk at our office. Therefore, it is important that you bring that number with you. You can carefully write down the number, print the confirmation screen from the website, or print the confirmation email. Note: Your ClerkExpress Get In Line Now Reservation Number is only valid for that day. If you cannot make it to our office before 5PM by the close of business, you will need to submit another request after 8AM on the following day.

What do I do when I get there

Get In Line Now: The Reservation Number is required when you arrive to check-in. Once you arrive at the location, go to the service kiosk and select the Check-in option. When prompted, enter your reservation number or scan the barcode that was provided in your confirmation. After you enter and verify your number, a ticket will print. Please take the ticket and have a seat while waiting for your ticket number to be called.

Appointment: You can check in at the service kiosk up to 15 minutes before your appointment time.  Select the Check In option. When prompted, selected "I have an appointment." Answer the remaining questions, then submit. Take the ticket and have a seat while waiting for your ticket number to be called.

Can I cancel or change my appointment?

Any appointment can be cancelled or rescheduled.  You will be required to enter your Reservation Number (which can be found on your confirmation email) and either your email address or phone number.  Then click on the cancel or reschedule button.  You will then receive a confirmation page and email indicating your appointment has been cancelled or rescheduled.

Why don’t I see a Get In Line or Appointment button for Restraining Orders or Mental Health?

We are committed to providing a high level of service to our citizens.  When a sensitive and urgent service is requested, a reservation would not be required.

For what services can I make an appointment?

At this time, we are making appointments for traffic ticket business, child support, family law, probate and guardianship, criminal and civil case filing, juvenile, and reviewing case files, in addition to marriage licenses and marriage ceremonies (in our Tampa location). Passport application appointments are resuming on May 17, 2021.

What do I need to know or have with me before I make the trip?
